MFV Audacious

The MFV Audacious was designed by Ove Christiansen of Vaersftetfrom sketches supplied by the Clougherhead brothers David and Naill Kirwin. The hull was fabricated at the Riga shipyard and then towed for finishing by Mooney Boats in Killybegs, County Donegal.

EK Marine Ltd custom designed and built the deck equipment for the vessel in our Killybegs facilty, installation together with that of the load sensing hydraulic control system was carried out by our Engineers at Mooney Boats yard. The package supplied consisted of the following:-

• 3 x EKM Trawl Winches, 15 ton line pull with level wind and a drum capacity of 750 fathoms of 20mm wire
• 2 x EKM Double Split Net Drums with 12.5 ton pull
• 2 x EKM Single Split Net Drums with 12.5 ton pull
• 1 x EKM Gilson Winches 5 ton line pull with drum capacity of 100m of 20mm wire
• 1 x EKM 500 Kg Electric Hoisting Winch
• 1 x EKM 2 ton Dragging Winch
• 1 x EKM Landing Crane 8m fixed boom lifting capacity of 1 ton @ 8m and capable of 360 degree slewing equipped with 1 ton 2 speed winch and deck mounted local controls.

Hydraulic System to include a wheelhouse control system consisting of 2 speed directional control for the winches and net drums plus the vessels bow thruster and incorporating a EKM Trawl Winch Line Length Monitoring Computer.

EK Marine Ltd installed and have maintained the hydraulic systems on David and Niall Kirwins fishing vessels for the past 10 years and were their first choice for the Audacios deck equipment and hydraulic package. The contract came to the company in quick succession to the MFV’s Patrick C, Carmarose, Colmcille and Westward Isle making EK Marine Ltd the leading deck equipment manufacturer for Irish fleet new builds.
